1 . A method for reducing pain in a subject in need of such pain reduction comprising topically administering to the subject a volatile anesthetic in an amount effective to reduce pain. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the volatile anesthetic is a halogenated ether anesthetic. 3 . The method of
