A method of preventing the effects of exposure to ionizing radiation in a mammal in need of such prevention, comprising administering an effective amount of RLIP76 protein to the mammal within 24 hours of exposure to the ionizing radiation. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mammal is human.
